Did You Know? Voter Protection
  • The GA State Election Board (SEB) created and approved new rules in August that affect how counties administer elections, and have voter advocacy organizations concerned the rules could be used to halt or delay election certification.
  • The Democratic Party of GA, the DNC, and other parties- including Forsyth’s Board of Registration and Election member Anita Tucker - have sued the GA State Election Board seeking an injunction to the new rules that could stop or delay election certification.
  • According to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, GA law requires county boards of elections to certify elections 6 days after the election, meaning by November 12, 2024. Not doing so could result in legal battles and possible criminal charges

Did you Know? Education

  • Capital spending for buildings, equipment, buses, etc.are funded primarily through bonds and SPLOSTs.  Debt service on bonds is handled through a separate millage, currently at 1.418.
  • In Forsyth County we rely more on residential property taxes than other districts because of the lack of commercial property development.
  • Due to the Over-65 exemptions, where seniors do not pay the school district portion of their property taxes, FCS does not collect an estimated $60 million in additional revenue.  We are one of the few counties that offer such an exemption.
