Did You Know: Climate Change Hits Home

• The U.S. has sustained 395 weather and climate disasters since 1980 in which overall damages/costs have reached or exceeded $1 billion. 
  
• In 2023, wildfires and other disasters pushed 2.5 million American adults out of their homes, including at least 830,000 people who were displaced for six months or longer.
  
• Project 2025 calls for the elimination of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a key agency for collecting climate data, claiming that NOAA is a main driver “of the climate change alarm industry” and should be “broken up.”
  

Did You Know: Soil and Water Conservation Commission

• Only 10% of the land in Forsyth County is farmland, yet the SWCC continues to be supervised exclusively by farmers.
  
• Beavers can help improve the environment of streams--their dams help minimize flooding during heavy rainfall events, and are natural silt filtration mechanisms.    
  
• Currently the Upper Chattahoochee River District is represented by 9 people, all with farming-related backgrounds. There is one open seat in Forsyth, and the Forsyth Dems support Roger Pennifill for this position.
