American Recovery and Reinvest Act
(“Stimulus Bill”):Enacted the first month of
President
Obama’s term to jumpstart our economy, create and save jobs, give 95% of
American workers a tax cut, and begin to rebuild America’s road, rail
and water
infrastructure.
Helping Families Save Their Homes
Act:To stem the growing tide of foreclosures by
providing significant incentives to lenders, servicers and homeowners to
modify
loans.
Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act:Triples volunteer opportunities to 250,000 citizens for national
service
for students to retirees; creates new service corps for education,
health care,
energy and veterans; a Summer of Service for middle/high school students
and
increased college financial awards.
Health Care for 11 Million Children:Provides health coverage for 4 million more children whose
parents earn
too little to provide their own insurance, but not too much to qualify
for
Medicaid, and preserves coverage for 7 million children already
enrolled.
Cash for Clunkers:Provided consumers with $3,500 to $4,500 vouchers to trade in old
vehicles for ones with higher fuel efficiency – spurring the sale of
approximately 250,000 more fuel-efficient cars and trucks, creating
jobs, and
shoring up struggling auto industry, car dealerships and auto-related
businesses.
Omnibus Public Land Management Act:The most significant conservation bill in 15 years, boosting the
economy
and tourism at 160 mostly rural sites; with 2 million new acres of
wilderness;
3 national park units; 1,000 miles of wild and scenic rivers; 1 National
Monument and 3 National Conservation Areas.
Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights:Provides tough new protections for consumers – including banning
unfair
rate increases, abusive fees, and penalties – and strengthens
enforcement.
Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act:Provides tool to prosecute mortgage scams and corporate fraud
that
contributed to the financial crisis and created an outside commission to
examine the causes of the financial crisis.
Military Procurement Reform:To crack down on Pentagon waste and cost overruns which GAO says
total
$296 billion just for the 96 largest weapons systems, increasing
oversight and
competition.
Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act:Restores the rights of women and other workers to challenge
unfair pay –
to help close the wage gap where women earn 78 cents for every $1 a man
earns
in America.
Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment
Extension Act:Guarantees access to lifesaving medical
services, primary care, and medications for low-income patients with
AIDS and
HIV.
Transfer of New GI Bill Benefits to
children of Fallen Troops:Expands New GI Bill benefits
to
cover the full cost of a college education for all children of fallen
U.S.
service members.
Hiring Incentives to Restore
Employment (HIRE):Provides tax incentives for employers to
hire
new employees who were previously unemployed and retain them for at
least one
year.
Student Aid & Fiscal
Responsibility Act:Makes the largest investment in college
aid
in history – increasing Pell Grants, making college loans more
affordable, and
strengthening community colleges – while reducing the federal deficit by
ending
wasteful student loan subsidies to banks.
Veterans Health Care Budget Reform
& Transparency Act:Ensures reliable and timely
veterans health care funding by authorizing Congress to approve VA
medical care
a year in advance.
Military Construction – VA
Appropriations:
Strengthens quality health care for 5 million veterans by investing 11%
more
for medical care, benefits claims processors, and facility improvements.
Worker, Homeownership & Business
Assistance Act:To boost the economy and create jobs,
provide
more unemployment benefits for Americans hit by the recession, expand
the 1st-time
homebuyer tax credit, and enhance small business tax relief.
Health Care Reform Bill:Provides health coverage to 32 million Americans and makes
substantial
reforms to health insurance while reducing the deficit by over $1.3
trillion
over 20 years.
